Folk Music in the Borderland of Sweden and Norway

Musician, Riksspelman, Composer
Anna-Karin grew up in Gislaved, Småland, and is a classically trained violinist. She discovered folk music in her youth and has since then immersed herself in traditional music from Sweden and Norway, playing both the Hardanger fiddle and the fiddle. She is known for her passionate Hardanger fiddle playing and her love for playing for dance.
Over the past decade, Anna-Karin has delved deeply into the tune traditions of Setesdal, Norway, while also honing her skills in Swedish folk music from regions such as Värmland and Västerdalarna. In 2023, she was awarded the title of Riksspelman for her mastery of Värmland tunes, and the same year she released her solo album Gränsland (named Solo Album of the Year by Lira Musikmagasin in 2023 and nominated Årets Folkmusik at Manifestgalan in 2024). She is currently active with the duo Goodacre/Andersson, which has released the acclaimed album Vidd (named Duo of the Year by Lira Musikmagasin in 2025).
Based in Malmö, Anna-Karin works as a freelancer in various musical ensembles, performing both in Sweden and internationally. She is frequently engaged as a musician and dance musician within the independent cultural scene in Skåne.
Anna-Karin has extensive experience as a folk music educator. She serves as the lead violin teacher for the folk music program at Skurups Folkhögskola, gives private lessons, and conducts workshops on traditional tunes for both adults and young people across Sweden. Her experience includes leading Korrö Folkmusikläger.
Anna-Karin’s musical education includes studies at Världsmusikprogrammet in Gothenburg, Malungs and Bollnäs Folkhögskola.
